Sodalitas CRM is widely used by Trade Unions and other not-for-profit bodies in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. With so many users, Sodalitas is a key part of the CRM landscape for NFPs. Here’s how it came to be so important.

The roots of CRM are in a digital evolution of a Rolodex type system of storing business cards. When once you could flip through a rotating stack of contact details, by the 1980s you could use first generation contact management software to search a database by name, category or other attributes.

The term CRM wasn’t coined until 1995, by which time the notion of contact details, history and automatically triggered actions (e.g. sales calls, emails, promotions) was bedded into mainstream business thinking. With time, the approach behind commercial systems moved into the NFP sector and membership organisations who may not have customers do have supporters, donors, members, constituents and beneficiaries. Enter Sodalitas.

‘Sodalitas’ is the Latin for ‘sodality’ which in its

broadest sense means an association or brotherhood.

Sodalitas was developed as a fully integrated CRM system specifically for charities, membership organisations and other NFP bodies. From launch Sodalitas became the CRM system of choice for many NFP organisations, including:

  • RMT
  • Unison
  • NASUWT (The Teachers’ Union)
  • Fire Brigades Union
  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow
  • Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • General Chiropractic Council
  • TSSA
  • PCS
